Every artwork begins with a detailed printed canvas that acts as the foundation of the piece.

The canvas contains a carefully mapped design divided into hundreds of tiny placement areas. Different symbols and sections correspond to different gem colours.

Before placing the first gem, the artist prepares the workspace, organises the colours and studies the design.

For artwork containing many shades, this preparation itself is important. Similar colours need to remain separated so the correct tone is used throughout the piece.

Thousands of Tiny Gems
